The Party of Magdalena is the major holiday in Castellon de la Plana. and in which origins of the city are commemorated, remembering the movement of the city from the hill of the Magdalena up to the fertile coastal plane in 1251.
They have a duration of 9 days and are celebrated from the third Saturday of Lent.

The gaiata is an illuminated monument of approximately 6 meters of height, symbol of the holidays. He remembers the canes, gayatos and lanterns that, according to the tradition, the inhabitants of Castellón used to test the swampy area during the night descent to the plane of the city. At the same time also it is called gaiata each of 19 sectors or neighborhoods in which Castellón's city is divided for the organization of the holiday:
